I had been told by my Dr that beyond physical therapy he could only think to refer me for MRIs to diagnose possible MS. I was struggling with memory issues, brain fog, nerve pain in the legs, muscle twitching, poor digestion, urinary tract issues, and overall drained. I was on six different prescription medicines to help manage depression and anxiety. This past month, my psychiatrist told me that she did not know what Tirzah was doing, but to keep working with her because it was helping! By changing my nutritional habits and adding supplements into my diet, I have been able to back off of my prescription medications.
I get really severe motion sickness and have my whole life. I avoid public transportation and most ship rides because of it. In a car, I can usually sit in the front seat or drive to stave it off.
Just last month, my husband and I went on a cruise I had earned through teaching classes and selling Nature’s Sunshine Supplements. We were both very worried about my motion sickness problems (I had thrown up on my first airplane ride 7 years ago), but that wasn’t going to stop us from enjoying the beautiful Mediterranean.
I took all the natural weapons in my arsenal: peppermint essential oil, ginger capsules, vitamin B-6, and sea-bands (acupressure bands you wear on your wrists)– all things recommended to anyone to help with motion sickness. I didn’t want to try Dramamine again as it makes me very drowsy and gives me horrible restless legs when I take it.
For the first part of the trip, I was fine. We had smooth airplane rides, and I kept up with the peppermint oil and ginger during them. The cruise ship was very smooth in between ports.
The last day on the ship was a sailing day out in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and was very windy. My motion sickness was fine if I was up walking or laying down; but if I tried to sit to eat, it was not good. I had to leave the dinner table without eating and barely made it back to my room to deposit what little was in my stomach into the toilet.
We had met Gina on our cruise. She was assigned to our table at dinner and happened to have the room next to ours. Like me, she also earned the cruise through Nature’s Sunshine. She had the Relief Oil blend, specifically formulated to help with things like motion sickness and upset stomachs.. Nothing helped that night.
After the cruise, we took the Barcelona Metro to the airport. It was about a 30 minute ride; and by the time we got to the airport, I was so sick I tried to throw up so I would feel better before getting on a 10 hour plane ride.
Looking through my purse, I discovered that I had brought my Tei-fu oil blend. It’s always been one of my favorites. I use it for muscle aches and pains, to help breathe when I have a cold, as a sleep aid, for spraying on any rash or skin irritation, and any time I want to relax or calm down. It’s labeled as a soothing blend. On a whim, I applied some to my stomach and the back of my neck. About 20 minutes later, I was 80% better. I applied some more and was soon confident about the airplane ride back.
The plane ride from Barcelona to Atlanta had a lot of turbulence. If it wasn’t for applying Tei-fu every hour or two, I would have been miserable. (I applied it before I started feeling sick again just as a preventative measure; I didn’t want to wait until I was sick again. You may not need to apply as frequently.) Instead, I was able to eat, drink and even read on the plane!
Everyone is different. I had brought with me the usual motion sickness aids, but they weren’t working for me. Just because you try something natural and it doesn’t help you, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. It just means it isn’t right for you. Keep trying, experiment. Work with a natural health practitioner to find the herbs, oils and supplements right for your body. You’re worth it.
(I also want to mention that I had a toothache on the way back. The Tei-fu oil provided much needed relief for that, too! When I got back, I switched to using Essential Shield for my toothache, which I have used successful before and avoided root canals or extractions because it.)
